The Effect of Pirated CDs

Moderation abuser writes "The real reasons music isn't selling as much as it used to, and not a lot to do with file sharing." I'm not sure that I agree that piracy is the reason for all of the music industry woes - I think creativity also has something to do with it, but those are still some huge numbers for pirated CDs.

I am a homosexual. I bought an Apple computer because of its well earned reputation for being "the" gay computer. Since I have become an Apple owner, I have been exposed to a whole new world of gay friends. It is really a pleasure to meet and compute with other homos such as myself. I plan on using my new Apple computer as a way to entice and recruit young schoolboys into the homosexual lifestyle; it would be so helpful if you could produce more software which would appeal to young boys. Thanks in advance.

You're not stealing if you copy music, you're copyright infringing. Many of us believe that the copyright infringement is not even wrong - as far as I'm concerned, if people don't want me passing on a copy information to someone else, they shouldn't release it. No way I am curtailing my freedom to communicate for their profit. Government-granted copyright is fundamentally incompatible with free speech, and represents a totalitarian violation of my property rights - I will do as I see fit with any copy of information in my possession, including copying it and giving it to someone else. I don't dispute someone else's property rights over their copy of the information, but I reject their heinous claim to property rights over my copy - I therefore also regard copyright as anticapitalist.

Copyright was proposed and marketed as a deal between artists and the public, whereby artists would get a temporary monopoly on reproduction in exchange for eventual release into the public domain - well, artists (or their corporate masters, only artists of legal bullshit) have broken that deal as far as I'm concerned, and I'm beginning to see that copyright is one of those temporary safeties at the expense of essential liberty we were warned about.

It's beyond time for copyright^H^H^H^Hprivilege to go.
