Pro-Gaming Film Released Online

Simon Bysshe writes "I've just released a new film for free online download, which I hope illustrates to the public how far professional gaming has come. The film was shot at the ESWC gaming championships in July, and includes in-depth interviews with many world-class Quake, Unreal, and Counter-Strike players. My intention for the film was to help potential sponsors of electronic sports realise the value of gaming as a spectator sport. The film can be downloaded from the ESReality site - in the past, Slashdot also posted about my last film, called 'Modern Day Gamer'." Update: 08/06 00:39 GMT by S : Thanks to andrewvc for a BitTorrent link to this 338mb DivX 5 movie.

Just when do we get to become part of the public? /me is going to turn 30 in about 2.5 years.

Do we get to be the public when we turn 30?

Cuz I think there's going to be a lot of changes if that's the case.

I don't think too many people love the media, so it'll be only a little while longer before Congress gets the message that the ppl who vote for them aren't buying from the people who lobby them. The money will eventually dry up.

Look, if _golf_ can be a spectator sport, and if there are tv shows on _fishing_, then hell, yeah, computer gaming can be a spectator sport. Hell, nothing's quite as boring as a baseball game, and that's the national pasttime here in the U.S. of W. *shudder*

I'd still rather play BZFlag, though. :)

Thought G4 on comcast, the all video gaming network was about. Of course, its not on DSS, so I havnt seen it.

Last lan party up here, G4 had a camera crew filming the it for TV, looking at peeps case mods, etc. Another tease.

Lucky DSS has Tech TV network with lots of shows that are pretty good, The Screen Savers, Tech TV and X-play, etc.

BTW, tv shows that have xbox mods, linux applications and porn tips are a must.

I just moved to a town that has G4 and it is horrible. beyond words bad. x-play on techtv is a million times better than anything i have seen on G4 and I don't like x-play all that much.

There's the strong and weak points of professional gaming. Obviously, huge stadiums are not needed. Equipment is as good as the programmer. The laws of physics don't apply.

But who would rather watch than play? When all you need is a computer, why use the same computer to be a spectator?

You have to see the pros to know why. You camping spawn on a pub doesn't even begin to compare to the intensity of watching the pros pull off amazing rounds. Watching the big tourneys is so excitnig because theres so much on the line ($60,000 last CPL). It really can and does come down to just one man left, lose the round and you're out, 3 people left with the bomb down.. and pull off an ace round and take them all out. its so much more exciting than just killing newbies randomly.
It's not for everyone, but to really showcase how spectator friendly it is, check out the cs movies on csflicks.net and demohq.com
If you'd like to see an actual match you can get the CPL demos from cpl.netfire.com, or some other random demos at sogamed.com and gotfrag.com.

well, that was... not as good as his last film. It was technically well made, but seemed not to have much focus. Still it was interesting, just not entertaining for me.
