Meet Martin Taylor Of Microsoft's Open Source Test Lab

securitas writes "Martin Taylor was recently appointed as Microsoft's open source and Linux strategist and is responsible for Microsoft's open source and Linux test lab, mentioned on Slashdot last week. Taylor says his goal is to change Microsoft's competitive strategy by pursuing a fact-based approach instead of continuing the previous discredit-and-undermine strategy that was characterized by calling open source and Linux software 'a cancer, un-American and bankrupt' among other things. Taylor says he plans to focus on (and fund) studies that 'will highlight Microsoft's advantages in areas such as security, feature-completeness and total cost of ownership.'"

The folks over at TUBgirl have an interesting article by Richard Z. Myers. He says:

"... yet given the major strengths of the open source development community, it has been establshied that the best minds in the IT world do not necessarily contribute to the open source community -- they are busy making money, riding around in their new BMWs, and literally and methaporically 'getting the girl'. By buying the best minds, Microsoft ensures a two-tiered system that works to their advantage - good-natured amateurs who throw their code online for free, and the true professionals -- those whose skills have reached a level of competance that ensure they are always in paid use.

Crazy schiza. Check it out here.

One of the things I find funny is that no-one want to believe things simply because MS says them.

Linux's license model seem Communist to me: it is "owned" by all and by none. It is even a communist ideal as each contributor gets more out than he/she puts in.

The license is also viral, as it has consequences for all that touches it.

It would be "illegal" for it to contain proprietary code because the proprietary code cannot be legally joined to it.

This is just as true for SCO's b.s. as it is for Microsoft's components.
