    Excuse me, but around here, we're geeks. That means we always use the subjunctive properly, but we screw spelling and the rest of those silly rules.

    BTW; I like semi-colons;

    I hate to inform you, but "were" is the correct form here. "Were" is the singular and plural form of the past subjunctive.

    I have someone here who would like a word with you, sir.

    James Bond is not, as far as we can tell, into wardriving, therefore this is a contrafactual conditional, or "subjunctive" statement. The subjunctive form of the copula ("to be") happens to be "were," whether it is singular or plural.
    I did not use the word "subjective" at all.
    If I were you, I would read up on my grammar (that link should help) to avoid looking stupid, which is what you are.

    Thanks for backing me up, but you missed one thing-- the word "you" actually is plural. It's quite a bit like the French "vous." It originally was used either to be polite or to address multiple people at once. "Thou" was the second person singular pronoun, and was considered less polite, even though it may sound more formal to us because it is so seldom used.

    That's because the sentence you give is not the same. "If he were into wardriving, then...." That is correct. If I were president I would nuke Saudi Arabia. I wish I were tall enough to reach that red button up there. Those use the subjunctive.

    It's alright, I hit that moderator with an Unfair meta-mod. They'll get the picture after a while, assuming we're in the majority.
