LWCE Wrapup
An anonymous reader writes "Extremetech.com reports that: 'Computer scientists from think tank SRI will present a novel take on distributed computing at LinuxWorld, all in a search for a little lost penguin.' For more information on Centibots, head over to the Centibots Project homepage." ReadthePaper writes "I just read a great interview with Jon "Maddog" Hall of Linux International." And finally, Hawkxor writes "Sun Microsystems VP Jonathon Schwartz demoed Sun's new desktop-oriented Linux distro 'Mad Hatter' and 3-D Desktop Environment 'Looking Glass' at LinuxWorld. Sounds pretty cool."
Can they shut this thing down as a pro-terrorist activity, since Linux has been proven by many respected analysts to contain unlawfully copied code which is the property of SCO? I think its time to send a strong signal that piracy is wrong, and I don't understand why the government, which is supposed to be acting in the interests of America's citizens, is standing by while these groups promote their agenda of IP theft?
Linux is now being used by foreign governments in countries hostile to America as a way to subvert America's software companies' efforts to compete in foreign markets. Already, Communist China has developed its own Linux distribution, Red Flag Linux, in an effort to complete its end-to-end control of IT in that country, complementing its repressive firewalls. In Germany, SuSE is lobbying the government hard to replace Microsoft products with inferior and more expensive linux-based solutions, fueled by the fires of anti-Americanism long burning in the heart of what Donald Rumsfeld has called "Old Europe". In France, Brazil, and many other countries where anti-American governments have taken power, the same Linux power play is taking place. America needs to stand firm against these efforts, and shutting the door on the promotion of this terrorist product is a good first step.
