Tokyo Skyscraper Attacked By Space Invaders
Thanks to Tokyopia.com for their article showing a massive Tokyo skyscraper with Space Invaders projected on the side of it, as part of Taito's celebrations for the 25th Anniversary of the all-time classic shooter. The special Anniversary Edition is being re-released for the PlayStation 2, and the remake has some interesting features: "You are in a 3D room... [and] can adjust the camera... [to] have the view you would have probably had if you were actually sitting at a real table top. While you play you can hear sounds coming from the other machines in the room." Special editions of the game also come with a classic tabletop controller, as Slashdot Games reported a few weeks back.
As part of an advertising stunt a few years ago, FHM (UK) projected a picture of Gail Porter, naked, onto the side of the Houses of Parliament. Now that's much more of a story.
Where was Slashdot then, eh?
Any one find it strange that it is as much of a game playing simulator as it is a game? It really feels like I'm playing Space Invaders!
If you tried this in many American big cities, you'd have too many windows on the building shot out by passersby hoping to nail some aliens.
Don't blame Durga. I voted for Centauri.

If this is how the Japanese choose to celebrate the anniversary of one of their more notable contributions to world culture, I shudder to think of what's going to happen next year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of one of their other more notable exports! I can just see some poor Japanese businessman or cute little Japanese high school girl casually looking up at the side of a skyscraper, seeing the image, and grumbling "Oh Lord, not again!" before running to the nearest shelter!
