Miniature 5400 and 7200 RPM HDDs Reviewed

PReDiToR writes "At Tom's Hardware I found this favourable review of some remarkable Hard Drives. The article points out that with 40GB units suitable for server or desktop use, life with 2.5" drives could be just around the corner. Heat noise and power consumption are all apparently within acceptable tolerances."

do raid arrays with usb based drives. 2.5" drives are small and low powered enough to be powered completely via the usb bus

Great idea... You want it to be EXTRA slow, AND you want it to be EXTRA expensive! Woo hoo.

usb2 (well, the version of usb that does 480mbps)

Oh, I see... It's all starting to make sense now. You are one of the many ilustrious /.ers that gets all your news from the headlines, and never reads the articles.

For your edification, USB2 is still USB2, and USB1.1 is still USB1.1. The only thing that changed (according to the story, you know what that is right?) USB is now being marketed with a name rather than a number (eg. USB high-speed, USB full-speed, etc.)

it could be alot cheaper than removeable scsi drives

WHAT?! Where in the hell do you get your information?

    what do you folks think?

I think you may have been dropped on the head as a child...
