The Increasing Cost of Red Hat Linux?
An Anonymous Coward asks: "I work at a company with a large number of Linux servers in the data center. We're currently evaluating what distribution we want to use moving forward. Upgrading to Red Hat Enterprise from 7.2 would cost ~$350k just for the systems we already have deployed. Due to the change in Red Hat's release policy, we either have to move to Enterprise, or change distributions. Also, we don't have Oracle on any of these systems, but we will need it in the future. This leaves us with rather limited options. I'm interested hearing what other Slashdot readers are running, and planning?"
i DOWt it.
although we were a little miffed/bemused about that opensourcenow ?pr? bullunder they offered dupe. particularly after they tried/failed to get the urls from us, by offering us a hat & some cds. we thought they'd be @leased original enough to come up with their own slowgun. if we used their silly name, we'd be swarmed buy fauxking legal sparrows before we could say phonIE.
no matter, back on task.
the lights are coming up (no pun intended).
the stars were quite visible for folks who almost never see them, last night.
you can pretend all you want. our advise is to be as far away from the walking dead contingent as possible, when the big flash occurs. you wouldn't want to get any of that evile on you.
as to the free unlimited energy plan, as the lights come up, more&more folks will stop being misled into sucking up more&more of the infant killing barrolls of crudeness, & learn that it's more than ok to use newclear power generated by natural (hydro, solar, etc...) methods. of course more information about not wasting anything/behaving less frivolously is bound to show up, here&there.
cyphering how many babies it costs for a barroll of crudeness, we've decided to cut back, a lot, on wasteful things like giving monIE to felons, to help them destroy the planet/population.
no matter. the #1 task is planet/population rescue. the lights are coming up. we're in crisis mode. you can help.
the unlimited power (such as has never been seen before) is freely available to all, with the possible exception of the aforementioned walking dead.
consult with/trust in yOUR creator. more breathing. vote with yOUR wallet. seek others of non-aggressive intentions/behaviours. that's the spirit, moving you.
pay no heed/monIE to the greed/fear based walking dead.
each harmed innocent carries with it a bad toll. it will be repaid by you/us. the Godless felons will not be available to make reparations.
pay attention. that's definitely affordable, plus you might develop skills which could prevent you from being misled any further by phonIE ?pr? ?firm? generated misinformation.
good work so far. there's still much to be done. see you there. tell 'em robbIE.
that's a gooed won. all about the fedorite/va lairIE payper liesense scams. what could be more topical?
natalie portman is ugly. michelle rodriguez is hot!
I celebrate the wisdom of Bob the Angry Flower.
offtopic, but true
How can the internet hit 100% perfect in an (esential) instant?!?
I subited it as a story, but it was rejected. Something going on out there and it doesn't look good.
I'm not a prophet or a stone-age man,
I'm just a mortal with potential of a super man.
I use gentoo, it optimises the system and you can get as much security as powible, just emerge ( a program that downloads compiles ands installs program for you) the right kernel (you still have to compile the kernel on your own of course). Than you emerge your system and you get the most up-to-dat software on your system. And so having great security.
Some draw backs.
-Time compiling takes time, stage 3 tarbals have most stuff compiled in but updating your system can easely take an hour or so (but you only have to do 1 command and the rest will be taken care of by the emerge program)
- Configuration, some things (like ssh need configuration (text based!!!)
Advantage
- A noob can install a program.
- If a program ackt's "funny" you just emerge it again and "the same" program runs again as it should
- Faster system
- You can tweak very much and so being able to creat a responsive fast system or maybe you wan't it to be very stable, etc.
- Great (actualy) helping community
