Satellite Views Of The Blackout
An anonymous reader writes "These Before and After satellite views of the blackout, from the NOAA, show the geographic extent and intensity of the outage. Toronto, Ottawa, and Detroit seem the worst hit. Currently, a cnn article mentions that a reverse of power flow around Lake Erie may have caused an overload that triggered the programmed shutdown of the power grid. Would be interesting to know how the system and software works, but then again, that information could be dangerous in the wrong hands."
Mad Mel is a buffoon. Last year he even allowed himself to be photographed wearing a Hell's Angels T shirt, alongside two chapter members. Nobody takes him seriously. That remark actually came from the mayor of NYC, not governer Pataki. From reading his comments, I don't think the current NY mayor isn't any better than Lastman.
Anyway, this finger pointing and political hay-making over where it started is downright foolish. The real question to ask is how a single point of failure managed to take down the entire grid. And it doesn't look like the system was any better on either side of the border. They were supposed to have fixed this, the last time it happened in 1965. (You think they would have learned something in nearly 40 years?) An overload at any point should result in load shedding and brownouts or selective rotating blackouts. It shouldn't cascade through the whole backbone. It is as if a single PC crashed and took down the internet.
My rights don't need management.
Well of course it wasn't, this isn't the sort of attack that a small malicious party can pull off.

Ummm... open your fucking eyes asshat! How many folks here thought the power outage was caused by a nucular blast when you found out it extended to NYC? That was my first thought. I figured we had probably completely lost some major city like Detroit or maybe D.C. I was waiting for the airforce to start sending fighters all over the place and bomb the terrorist hideouts that are planted all over the U.S. Last estimate I saw, there are about 800,000 chinese hiding out in Canada waiting to swarm over the U.S. and install a communist dictatorship. Keep yourself up to date with info from patriot cells and you'd be surprised how bad it is out there. The U.S. was occupied during the Clinton administration and that control hasn't been relinquished. Bush is just a puppet for those traitors. People! The time has come to wake up and realize that the mongrel hordes are here and waiting to attack. That's why the power grid went down. I know it was caused by terrorists. Just not the kind you're thinking of. The whole Taliban stuff and 9/11 was just a set up that our lords and masters threw out to make certain that we aren't paying attention to the real threat. The communists never let go of their control. They've simply dispersed it and they are running the show from a shadowy background. Why do you think there is so much pro-gay and pro-woman stuff now? Because the communists are trying to pollute the patriarchy! Not only do they want to take away your property, they want you to think that you don't own your wives! They also want to promote weakness in men who aren't up to the task of being real men. That's why homosexual is encouraged. If they turn enough of our men into pansies, we won't be able to muster up enough patriots to fight them. It's going to be a long war ahead, but we must resist the communists, the homos and feminazis.
