Divx Now Adware Supported Only

Now when one visits the download page, the only free codec you can download is adware supported. This means even to just watch divx movies and not do any actual enncoding, one has to install adware on their machine. I for one will be finding a different video codec." Sounds like a good reason (if you needed one) to look curiously at Ogg Theora. I have been using Linux exclusively on my desktop for the past three months. I am switching back over to Windows today. I tried to see what was so great about Linux, and I thought I did for a time.
In actuality, there's nothing that Linux can do that Windows can't, and vice versa. Windows just makes everything easier. Why should I spend two hours trying to get my Palm to sync with Linux, when I can get it to work in under two minutes in Windows?
You can make the argument that Linux and is more secure than Windows, etc. I'll agree with you there. However, I make backups of my hard disks, and I'd rather waste a day reformatting Windows should my system ever completely destroy itself, rather than spending days just to get my scanner to work.
The amount of time I would waste in the long run reformating Windows or configuring Linux is probably the same. I'd rather waste my time with Windows, because at least then I don't need to rack my brain to accomplish some trivial task.
I'll agree that Linux is great for servers, because I've had my fair share of trouble with IIS. Regardless, Linux is no where near ready for the desktop. I'll try Linux again in a year, hopefully it won't completely suck.
