Telstra To Put Linux On Desktop
StArSkY writes "The Australian has an article today outlining how Telstra, Australia's largest Telco, is switching to Linux and open source on the desktop. Their pilot has been quite successful, and improved stability has been noticed. On trial are Star Office, Gnome, Mozilla and Wyse. Spending AUD$1.5 Billion a year on IT, means Telstra using Open Source is a massive boost to Open Source developers and support professionals. Not mentioned in the Article is that Telstra also just Dumped IBM Global Services, and will be running IT in-house again! Telstra will be hiring Linux-savvy people I think..."

yeah... you heard me. trust them to use a crap os like linux.
Obviously, when they use gnome they will see just how CRAP it is! With the file dialog, crapppy utilites (bring back extract here in file roller!), the lack of fish (ssh) and split pane support in nautilus, the weather applet that shows fahrenheit (and no centigrade like the rest of the world uses), the buggy video player, and the slow openorifce.cx office suite (and no, 1.1 isn't any faster, its just that they made the splashscreen last less, you still have to wait ages for the window to appear).
Anyway, the Gnome team will get ridiculed, and they can tell Havoc pennington to shove his "hig" up his ass along with his yoda.
REMEMBER, support quality software, use KDE! Version 3.2-a will be coming out in a few days, and it will wipe the floor with gnome and will send the longhorn desingers screaming back to the drawing board!
If you think this is just another troll, try Gnome 2.4 first.
I hope they publicly ridiKule KDE when they find out that it sucks. When they find out that the alphabet has shrank by one letter, to find all instaces of "c" are replaced with "k". Not to mention that kde is slow, has an embaressing mascot, and find out that it is a subsiduary of trolltech inc, which is a member of canopy group, who will price gouge them AU$50,000 a developer to port all their applications to linux unless they want to open source it (which they dont).
USE quality free software, use GNOME!
And if you think this is flamebiat, you should try KDE 3.1, Gnome 2.4, when it comes out in a few days will wipe the floor with KDE!
