Finally A Major-Brand Desktop With Linux, Not Windows

Fugwidzard writes "Sounds like an okay box from HP at an okay price, the NewsForge review says, but no modem, and even optional modems are Winmodems although they say they have Linux drivers for them. Plus it's not a true Linux preload - they give you a couple of Mandrake CDs and you're on your own, no support. Better than paying Microsoft tax, anyway, and a step in the right direction for HP. Supposedly they're going to have all their PCs 'Linux certified' in the near future. I hope other big PC mills do the same."

And I had just added a section to cover the HP desktops with Mandrake to my website. I still think there is an article here, but you saved me from finding out if it was pre-loaded or not. ;)

I would have had to make the call, you just saved me. There may yet be another take on this... hmmm.

Thanks for the hard work though.

HP rules! MPE was/is a good OS. HP knows a good thing, and Linux is a just that.

It was a couple of years ago that HP added support for linux libraries to HP-UX. Now they are shipping Mandrake CD's.

I hope they sell loads of those systems.

Oh, can I get linux for my HP75C? (no, this is not a calculator)...

Thank you Mr. Torvalds and all the others who have contributed!

These bastards are on the leading edge of shipping ALL their jobs out of the US into cheap foreign countries like India and Russia. They even have the gall to say that they can't find suitable talent in the US, while places like Silicon Valley and Texas have 8+% unemployment!

They would rather care more about their shareholders than live up to their social contract of helping out their employees and fellow Americans that made them you they are today.

HP's CEO has been on record saying that she plans to "ship as many jobs overseas as possible".

Thats about all I need to know regarding HP, as far as i'm concerned.
