Camera Watch: Links to Public Webcams

Mikkeles writes "From an Associated Press story: 'It sounds like a chapter out of "Spy vs. Spy": Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have launched a project called Camera Watch that lists Internet cameras that monitor public spaces, letting Web surfers try the role of bored security guard.' The site permits searching for an available webcam in the geographical region (US) of your choice. About 600 webcams of 6000 in the pipe are now available."

    I'm pretty sure I heard about something just like this a few weeks ago. Was it just a proposal for this project or someone else doing the same thing? Anybody?

    I know this is offtopic, but I was just using iTunes and it made me think of something. That is: image thumbnail browsers all suck these days. They are designed to work with images stashed away in hierarchial trees. Well, I'll tell you what - I have a porn collection with at least 5000 pics in it, and they're not all easily classifiable. Say I have a tree like this:

    softcore

    • nude
    • pussy
    • breasts
      • large
      • small

    hardcore

    • anal
    • oral
    • orgy

    Makes sense right? OK, now I download a pic of a woman having anal sex. But she has beautiful boobs and a nice pussy. Do I put this pic in softcore-breasts? Do I put it in hardcore-anal? Where do I put it? I could put it in one place and symlink it to another, but that would be a kludge. (Shut up Unix neanderthals, YES, it would be) What we need is an image viewer that organizes pics not by their place in the filesystem hierarchy, but by their user-defined metadata. This pic I just downloaded, I could assign keywords to it: anal, boobs, pussy. And I can do the same with all my other pics. So I can use checkboxes to, say, include all pics that have nice pussies, but no pics that show naked guys in them. Or I could get even more specific, like, show me all pics with nice pussies, but exclude all unshaven pussies.

    Somebody needs to get to work writing this app right this very minute. They could make it shareware and become a fucking millionaire I tell you. (No, iPhoto doesn't cut it) OK, please continue the useless discussion. Thanks
