NVIDIA's New Pro Graphics Quadro FX 3000 Reviewed
SpinnerBait writes "NVIDIA recently took the wraps off their next generation Workstation Graphics
card, the Quadro FX 3000. This card is based on the same general GPU
architecture as the NV35 but optimized for CAD and DCC applications.
This article over at HotHardware shows what the new Quadro FX 3000 is capable of
and it makes a strong showing. However, you've got to pay to play (or
work) on this card, that's for sure."
Why do most websites force me to click through dozens of "deny the cookie" dialogs before they show me the content?!
Goatse.cx link in parent. Mod down appropriately. That is all.

All we need is your pious financial support, plenty of imprecatory prayer and a good-sized, Leviticus-charged stone or two, and soon the GNAA will be a thing of the past!

If you are so irritated by cookies, why don't you just install Junkbuster and set it up to drop all cookies? Or better yet, only allow cookies from sites you trust and then you can turn off cookie confirmations.
I would imagine that it would take you less time than you spend clicking on cookie dialogs in a day.
yikes almighty, more jump you ads than george has cronIEs. couldn't tell what the site was about. had to close the browser. what form of 'service' is that? they (all of them) ought to be embarassed & ashamed. eye gas that's what happening to folks who skip reading about the good gnus?--
we continue to extend our deepest sympathies to the victims of cowardly greed/fear based aggression everywhere.
that old tune title (hope we don't get 'busted' for using it) "make the world go away", takes on new/varied meaning in these times.
the prevalent notion that 'everything will be taken care of' without yOUR knowledge/participation is insidiously misleading.
in our estimation, the biggest 'threat' against US (aside from continuing to fire bullinedly into the 'crowd', whilst demanding applause), would be a failure to recognize our 'role' in the problems. we're victims for sure, but whoare ALL the perpetrators (see also: corepirate nazi puppets), gets lost in the ?pr? ?firm? generated propaganda spew.
consult with/trust in yOUR creator. seek others of non-aggressive behaviours/intentions. that's the spirit.
the lights ARE coming up now. pay attention (to yOUR heart, for example). that could lead to new ways (see also: newclear power plan) of thinking about/dealing with, the needs/rights of others EVERYWHERE on the planet.
having the attention span of a gnat, & similar ambitions, might be ok if you are just planning to be a consumer/type one liners.
take care of each other, you're all we've got. we're here for you. get ready to see the light.
I'm writing this as a followup to a short paper I once wrote for Linux.com regarding the ever-evolving state of computer software, and why it is not necessary to have just a different kind of software: we need a different kind of developer.
Now I have to share my joy with everybody regarding the news that 3dfx intends to discontinue their accelerator boards, and instead focus on the chips used to make those boards.
I had complained that 3dfx offered only lip service to their customers who used Linux; their work on drivers had been deleterious to accelerated gaming on Linux on the whole, and Nvidia (who entered the race after 3dfx) had already far overtaken the company. This was done not only in the quality of drivers they produced, but also in ease of installation. I had (quite rightly) condemned 3dfx for their lack of initiative.
Community Building
Placing your software under the GPL or any other Open Source License does not an open source community create. If you aren't genuinely interested in producing the very best software, no respectable driver hacker is going to fill in for your shortcomings. It seems to me the height of hubris to assume that people are going to volunteer to make your company successful while you sit in your executive chair enjoying the royalties gathering from a pool of unwitting dupes doing your company's dirty work.
I think it is unfortunate that this scenario probably means we'll never see quality 3dfx drivers for Linux. At the rate things were moving, I am quite confident that we would never have seen them anyway.
Accelerator Time
But I'm not all bitterness and resentment, though. To their credit, they're the only company I can name offhand still producing PCI versions of their boards. I see a genuine golden opportunity for 3dfx here. 3dfx will probably be around forever. The first accelerator chipset I ever heard about was (yep) the Voodoo set. 3dfx knew how to get into the market, but they didn't understand how to keep that lead. I realize that they were a great leader in the 3d acceleration movement at one time, but 3dfx is constant; and time is not. Unfortunately for 3dfx, neither were companies like Nvidia.
3dfx has a chance to fulfill their legacy when they leave. Rather than slip silently into the night, I propose they open all the hardware and driver specs to all their boards; since they won't be making these boards any more, this publicity can't compromise any industrial secrets; no information could be used to take them out of business.
Excellent Driver
Instead, the drivers (including the Windows and Mac drivers) would be present with full source code to allow other people to maintain these boards for a reasonable length of time. Interested individuals would no longer have to guess at hardware settings or APIs -- with full access to the spec, I'm sure we'd see good drivers in a reasonably short time.
Is this the end of 3dfx? Probably not. But thankfully, it will be the end of 3dfx as I know it.
Anyone know if GAIM fixed its MSN plugin yet? I really need to IM Bill Gates on October 16, which is right after my startup releases its new product.
Thanks much. Bye!
