House Passes Internet Tax Ban

computerlady writes "InfoWorld reports that the House of Representatives today voted a permanent ban on 'levying taxes unique to the Internet.' The Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act would permanently prohibit taxing jurisdictions in the U.S. from levying such taxes as e-mail taxes, bandwidth taxes, or bit taxes. To become law, the bill would have to pass the U.S. Senate and be signed by President Bush. The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee approved its version of the bill July 31, and its next stop is the full Senate."

This is nice and all, and simply done so the politicians can assure themselves a re-election. "See this internet businesses and consumers? We love you so no taxes, vote quimby!" ...but whats really amazing is that my work closed today because of the hurricane.

This is way offtopic, I know, mod me down.

    But still.

That so? Maybe there are other ways to deal with the malpractice suits... First off, how about lowering the costs a doctor incurs, such as office rent costs (my doc is going through this).. It's all bent up on money and companies, so charge higher for insured individuals, and be compassionate for uninsured individuals.. Oh and maybe we could have used that nice $87 billion bucks to give healthcare to all Americans... Thus increasing the amount of people who are covered, thus hopefully making the doctors make more money. Why not even change the law to put a cap on insurance premiums? (you dont see that now do you?) Or even use the other $100's of billions we are going to use above that proposed $87 billion for Iraq to setup malpractice insurance plans offered by the government, at the same time providing healthcare for all those in need, and are tax paying? I mean what the hell... we are already financially fucked by the mess bush has gotten us into... Atleast defcit us with something good, rather than the arrogance and ignorance so prominetly displayed by Bush.

Who started the war? Based on allegations of links to terrorism and weapons of mass destruction -- neither of which could be verified by anybody?

And how isn't this a "Bush" deficit?
