More on BTX Motherboards

venger writes "Anandtech has an article on the new standard of cases and motherboards that is soon to be released. Looks like they are trying to cater for the increase in heat devices are now producing while keeping the noise levels down!" We mentioned BTX earlier.

I don't want to start a holy war here, but what is the deal with you BTX Motherboard fanatics? I've been sitting here at my freelance gig in front of my Windows box(a Pentium/933/256) for about 20 minutes now while it attempts to copy a 17 Meg file from one directory on the hard drive to another. 20 minutes. At home, on my PC-XT running MS-DOS 5.0, which by all standards should be a lot slower than this Windows box, the same operation would take about 2 minutes. If that.

In addition, during this file transfer, IE will not work. And everything else has ground to a halt. Even MS Word is straining to keep up as I type this.

I won't bore you with the laundry list of other problems that I've encountered while working on various Windows boxes, but suffice it to say there have been many, not the least of which is I've never seen a Windows box that has run faster than its MS-DOS counterpart, despite the Pentiums' faster chip architecture and RAM size. My 286/10Mhz with 1 meg of ram runs faster than this 933 mhz machine at times. From a productivity standpoint, I don't get how people can claim that the Windows is a superior OS.

Windows addicts, flame me if you'd like, but I'd rather hear some intelligent reasons why anyone would choose to use a Windows box over other faster, cheaper, more stable systems.
