Bob Barr Weighs In On Trusted Computing Group
bearwayne writes "Former representative Bob Barr (R-GA), a conservative and non-technophile, who has now has teamed up with the ACLU to fight growth of the Federal government's infringements on Civil Liberties ala the Patriot Act, weighs in on the Trusted Computing Group/Alliance in this article at Creative Loafing. Among other things, he expresses concerns about censorship, loss of control over one's PC, and other corporate/government abuses."
Exactly what Civil Liberties have been infringed by the Patriot Act?? That's a question few civil libertarians can actually answer, because they can't name any. The hysteria over it has been so overblown, and hyperbolic that any legitimate grievances about it have been drown out.
If you people hate the Patriot Act that much, please refrain from all the hysterics and exaggeration and make some real arguments, instead of "they're infringing!". God, that gets old.
Not only is Barr not a technophile, I have serious doubts as to whether he is even a sentient being.
Bob Barr may be right on this issue. But he's still an asshole.
A kook like Alex Jones or that Michael Ruppert kook who spew their filth on the internet and the radio. Patriotic Americans suppport the Patriot Act, the DMCA, the war in Iraq, Israel, gun controls and gun bans, welfare, social programs, foreign aid, the War on Drugs, and pay their taxes with pride. You people need to be put into camps. That's all I have to say about it.
My primary recollection of him is the gigantic hissyfit he made over how the DC Metro hadn't changed all its signs for "Washington National Airport" to "Ronald Reagan National Airport" or whatever after Congress renamed it after our glorious drooling ex-leader. Metro said it would cost thousands of dollars, as they'd have to reletter the name on all their signs, reprint all their schedules, etc. Barr went apeshit and used his position on some committee to hold up a spending bill for Metro until they capitulated.
So, Barr is an asshole. Also, the rule of Congress over Washington is unamerican. Unsurprisingly, because no one in congress is accountable to citizens in the district, they don't even stop to think before they trample over citizens and the elected local leadership. Your medical marijuana example is just one of many, many abuses that have occurred over the years. A crucial component of democracy is elected representation for citizens. The continued obstruction by the Republican leadership in Congress of proposals to give DC representatives/senators, out of fear that the District's large black population will make it a source of Democratic representatives, is disgusting.
