The trailer in cinemas now will be released for download on monday. Of course, there is a leaked version which is pretty low quality, but still it is STUNNING.

Return of the King is going to ROCK!

Not to threadjack, but... feh. The Twin Towers wasn't particularly good in my opinion. As I go back and look at the FOTR I find it was boring as well. When is someone going to do an interesting modernized fantasy movie like around Dragonlance or the Forgotten Realms world? I just have this issue with these wizards supposedly being so powerful yet never use their magic. Where are the fireballs? Can they at least give us a measily magic missile? Tolkien's wizards are completely weak. Raistlin would've kicked all their asses.

Oh god, I am such a dork to say that, but it's true.

FANNI-matrix. I thought it was just a new, high-tech way to fax your butt.

Well, I can't believe I'm going to bite, but I'll do it anyway. ;)

See, Tolkien's wizards were probably loosely based upon the mythical wizards from his time: Merlin and others of his ilk.

Back in the myths, wizards were defined more by their long age, wisdom, and foresight.

Modern fantasy literature defines wizards as those who wield flashy special effects and blow shit up. Not that I mind flashy methods of blowing up stuff. ;)

Basically, modern fantasy has done to wizards what Star Wars has done to space movies: more flashiness, less subtlety.

Again, I'm not ripping on the wizards of Raistlin's ilk, just pointing out how Lord of the Rings is more of a classical fantasy (if such a thing exists). I love it and am absolutely pleased with how the books have translated to film.

That said, I'd love to see a well-done film adaptation of the Dragonlance stories as well!
