The Origin of Murphy's Law

LauraW writes "HotAIR, the web site of the Annals of Improbable Research , is publishing a fascinating series on the Origin of Murphy's Law. It turns out there really was a Murphy, and the story of his law involves rocket sleds, Chuck Yeager, and Edwards Air Force Base. The article covers all these topics and more, and includes interviews with Yeager, the son of Murphy (really), and several surviving members of the project that inspired the law."

Sigh. How ignorant is it possible to be? Of course there was
a Murphy, and most of us know the story. It has been written
up dozens of times the last few decades.

According the the HJF it's actually a misomer, them crediting it's origional incarnation to 'Finigail'. This Finigail noted that (similar to what the artical states) an engenier had installed a set of accelerometers in the wrong way due to them being symetrical, and made a report saying that they should be symetrical to prevent inevitable mixups.

But then again, how much can you trust a 'net based encyclopedia?
