Starcraft Ghost Takes Blizzard's Franchise Stealth

Thanks to GameSpot for their hands-on preview of Starcraft: Ghost, the third-person action game being developed for all three consoles (thus negating Xbox exclusivity rumors) by Nihilistic and Blizzard. The article reveals vehicular combat added into the stealth action, saying "...the final game will let you pilot a Terran siege tank, goliath (a bipedal mech), and vulture (a small hovercycle)", and IGN has a more in-depth look at this new Tokyo Game Show build, mentioning the developers are "working together to make a more refined stealth game" but voicing a few reservations about "sluggish and unresponsive" targeting on this much-improved, early 2004-due title.

Is there something that is meant to interest me other than the brand name? Frankly I could care less whether this game had a Blizzard Vulture or a Microsoft Dune Buggy. What is interesting about the gameplay? I mean Starcraft was fun and all, but it is not like I identify with the characters or story from it.

      Interesting point, actually.

I think the game _could_ be interesting because it's developed by Nihilistic, who did the pretty decent Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, and are mainly ex-LucasArts people from the tail-end of the 'good' era (Jedi Knight, etc.) Also, Blizzard tend to be decent about quality control (they cancelled Warcraft Adventures when it wasn't up to scratch.) But.. a license does not a game make, and we'll have to see how this stacks up.

I played it in Nihilistic's studio. (I know someone who works there.) The gameplay rocks. It's on par with the gameplay of Metroid for the Gamecube.

If you played starcraft a lot, it's quite thrilling to see all of the enimies and units rendered in a 3D world. Somehow, a zergling or hydralisk looks a hell-of-a-lot more scary when they're running at you in a first person perspective.

In short, if you liked starcraft a lot, and you like 3D shooters, you will like this game.

evidently you don't play (or haven't played) Starcraft much. So are you saying you would identify with a MS Dune Buggy? There are elements and specific things in SC that make the game as enjoyable and long-lasting as it is. I for one can't wait. I think others have been waiting for a SC-world based fps also.

Which is exactly his point. It makes me wonder why Blizzard would ignore the one platform they're best known for. More specifically, the same platform that the original Starcraft was released on.

I wouldn't be suprised if they were to release a PC version in the future (especially because of the XBOX release.) Yet, Nihilistic is pretty small - 20 to 30 people I think, which is stretching it to produce the game across the 3 console systems.
