Major Problems with Cingular Network

Wabin writes "It looks like the Cingular GSM network is having serious trouble. My phone stopped working today completely, though my wife's was still able to make outgoing calls. Talking to tech support, they claimed some kind of massive failure across the country starting around 4PM yesterday and possibly a virus attack. Howard Forums is all abuzz, but there really doesn't seem to be any hard info. Glad I haven't totally given up the land line yet... redundancy is good."

Cingular is actually switching to the 'edge' network. gsm is new to the us because we actually started by building a analog network then switching to digital. so yeah the rest of the world is slightly ahead of us. then again how many coutries are as large and spread out as the united states? I'd like to see you set up a network from coast to coast, think of all the towers you have to put up and upgrade, all the people you have to train and hire. not to mention dealing with improper setups done by elitest ex-IT workers.
