The Smart Sensor Web

Roland Piquepaille writes "As writes Vincent Tao for GEO World, integrating the billions of sensors already present in our environment with the power of the Web will represent 'a revolutionary leap in earth observation.' 'In short, the Sensor Web offers full-dimensional, full-scale and full-phase sensing and monitoring of Earth at all levels: global, regional and local.' The Sensor Web will need to have five characteristics to be successful. It must be interoperable, intelligent, dynamic, flexible and scalable. And the Sensor Web architecture will have four layers: a sensor layer, a communication layer, a location layer and an information layer. When it's here, it will have 'extraordinary significance for science, environmental monitoring, public safety and many other domains of activity.' This summary contains the essential concepts of the original and dense article."

Yeah, but I think the Marlins will beat them. The Marlins are more likely to play small ball than the Braves did, and I think that gives them a better chance to get a few runs off the Cubs' pitching. And I hope the Red Sox win tomorrow, so they can lose to the Yankees in the ALCS. The fun is just to give Red Sox fans a little hope, only to have the Yankees crush it. :)

Ugh, I'm tired of seeing the Yankees win all the time. At least Oakland has a chance against them, assuming they can keep their pitching staff healthy. Besides, with the Giants gone they're the only California team left.

If it's the Marlins and the Yankees, I'm afraid the Series will go 5 games - if the Marlins are lucky.

    4. Re:Chicago Cubs by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Offtopic

Oakland has a shot if their pitching is healthy. That's a big if. And they need their pitching to be great, and they want it to be a short series. If Hudson can pitch, they'll probably go with a three man rotation of Zito, Hudson, and Lilly. In a seven game series, that can wear down your pitching. If it comes down to who can score the most runs, though, Oakland has little chance of winning the series.

I actually think the Red Sox match up better against the Yankees. This is because they're built around scoring a lot of runs, and if Ramirez and Ortiz play well, they have a chance. Their pitching is a bit of a concern, though. Lowe is impressive, and Pedro will do what Pedro does best, but after that, their pitching is questionable. Still, I think they can score enough runs to make up for shaky pitching.

Don't count the Marlins out against the Yankees, either. The Marlins have pretty good pitching. Beckett and Willis are really good, and if they get decent outings from Penny and Redman, they'll be fine. And the Marlins have the speed to make things happen on the bases and exploit some of the Yankees' defensive weaknesses. I might not pick the Marlins over the Yankees, but they'd have a real shot at winning such a series.

not to troll, but I am damn tired of this 'the it spending economy is bad, the sky is falling' mentality repeated by IT HR people and IT executives.

This is a large amount of crap to punish the IT workers whom those companies had such a hard time hiring in the late 1990s.

There are IT jobs, people are getting hired, salaries are stable.

The big companies need to realize that the USA based IT workers can and will be competitive with the rest of the world given a fair chance.

In short, be positive about the IT market and IT prospects since every person you help to influence to have a favorable IT outlook can influence someone in HR or management at an IT company to hire you.
