Taipei 101 Now World's Tallest Building

mstamat writes "A 101-storey skyscraper in Taipei is from today the world's tallest building. The new scyscraper is 508 metres (1,667 feet) tall, beating the 452-metre (1,483-feet) twin Petronas towers in Kuala Lumpur. The full height was achieved after adding a 60-metre (197-ft) spire on top of the building. The story is on Reuters." There's plenty of information about the building available.

Taiwan does not face the same risk from terrorists, and I can't see it being on the terrorist hitlist anytime soon.
When the WTC were built, we had no real terroist enemies. It started with Reagan training Bin Ladin to help create Al Qaeda and our own wealth and arrogance. Reagan figured that they would only fight against Soviet Union and never thought that they would go against us.
Taiwan is doing well finacially, and yes, after a time they will be arragant as well. This will lead to enemies. And as 9/11 has shown, it did not take an army to bring down these towers. It simply took 19 dedicated ppl. It is only a matter of time.
In spite of that, I do not think that we should quit building skyscrapers. Just take into account that terrorism may occur at any time in the future. Had WTC lined its' interior with the mystery heat material from slashdot a few days ago, then WTC would quite possibly still be standing with a whole lot less deaths.

I prefer the "u" in honour as it seems to be missing these days.
