World Cyber Games 2003 Results

jester42 writes "The quasi-olympics in eSports just took place this last weekend in Seoul, Korea. 600 players from 55 nations competed in 8 different games to find both best players and best nations. The results of each game, and a medal tally can be found at the WCG website. Germany got the title of best nation, ahead of Chinese Taipei and Korea. The World Cyber Games are held every year, and national qualifications are followed by a final. Next year's final will be hosted by San Francisco, and will be the first time the WCG finals take place outside Asia."

I wonder if the tournament downloads, specifically Unreal Tournament 2003 recorded matches are available for download. It'd be interesting to watch.

Does anyone know where to get these files?

gotfrag.com has Counter-Strike demos (not "replays") as well as a couple of WC3 ones, don't know about UT.

About the tournament: there was some drama, including a mass fight Russians vs. French in the hotel, a disqualification of a 13-year old Halo(?) player for using a timer, and disputes about using flashbang bugs in CS that blind an entire team when thrown into a bugged map area - American Team3D used one in de_aztec, but it was legal according to WCG rules (the team leader is a would-be lawyer), whereas the Brazilian mibr lost a match due to using one twice on de_nuke. Also, a British Age of Mythology player (along with someone else) was disqualified for sexually harassing tournament officials - they passed suggestive notes to the girls serving free drinks. This despite the UK team leader coming up with an ingenious ploy to claim that the player was gay.. he didn't go for it, out of fear of rumors.

Anyway, the biggest match was 3D vs. Schroet Kommando of Sweden in the Counter-Strike finals, the Swedes won two maps needed (de_dust2 and de_train) to take the Gold. A predictable result, SK is generally considered to be the best team in the world even if 3D has the most popular player, Kyle "ksharp" Miller! 3
