Microsoft Antitrust Compliance Questioned
rocketjam writes "Federal and State regulators overseeing Microsoft's compliance with their antitrust agreement with the government, are questioning whether Windows XP's "Shop for Music Online" feature violates the agreement's terms. Specifically, the feature invokes Microsoft Internet Explorer, even if the user has selected a different web browser as their default browser. A Microsoft representative said they believe they have adhered to the agreement."
ICY HOT YODAHZ straight ballin'!!!
Well holy shit, I am shocked.
They seemed like such a nice company, too.
Mod me down with all of your hatred and your journey towards the dark side will be complete!
I've been using Mozilla for about a year exclusively on 2K and XP, and I went back to test IE for something. It's approximately 5x (no joke) faster for load up, opening new windows, and 3x faster at displaying sites.
/., so anything anti-MS is good.
Mozilla has gotten more and more bloated and grabby with file associations (jpeg, png, you name it, Mozilla grabs without asking). Firebird is better, but still quite slow compared to IE.
It's a silly nit pick to take MS to task for this use of IE too. Of course, this is
kekeke tihs si teh frist post from Goa Tse!
"It may need to run IE for some ActiveX crud."
Their own self-imposed technological restrictions don't amount to a legitimate excuse, IMO.

HAHAHAHA!
You fell for it -- DUMBASS!
I looked at the Slashdot front page and wondered why there were so many of the typical "bash Microsoft" articles. One of them was about statements Microsoft made about iTunes, a dupe that even almost had the exact same headline word for word as yesterday's! I usually expect this kind of stuff from Slashdot, but it was being heaved on us a little thick (aren't there any interesting Linux articles we could post today? I want to read about Linux, not Microsoft...)
Then I realized today was the day Microsoft Office 2003 was released to retail. It's sad, but it makes sense. Big day for Microsoft, big bashing agenda on Slashdot. Made all the more obvious when you recognize that Slashdot is a corporate-owned entity (amusing, considering all the anti-corporate spiel around these parts).
What the hell happened to Slashdot in the past year? It's been plain awful.
"Sufferin' succotash."
You used the ridiculous 1998-era buzzword "M$" twice which basically invalidates your post as fanatical and full of zealotry.
"Sufferin' succotash."
Hey, I don't mind getting modded by an actual user, burning real mod points. If they want to waste their mod points trying to push turds below the surface, that's their neurosis. Personally, I think they should by pushing the good posts up above the dreck. But this sleazy abuse of moderation system by the editurs is bullshit.
