LG CD-ROMs Destroyed by Mandrake 9.2
An anonymous reader writes "The latest offering of Mandrake's distribution, 9.2, has been found to not only be incompatible with some LG CD-ROM drives, but to destroy them during the installation process. Mandrake have posted information on their errata page and further information can be found on this thread [google]. Along with over 350Mb of updates within a week of release, it's not been a good start for this latest release."
Indeed.
They'll want it for all their install CD-ROMs.
fuck you.
"Not Linux! It must be the drive!"
Open-source software makes things better, eh?
This, coupled with the 350MB of updates Mandrake has already released doesn't fill me with confidence concerning the "superiority" of the Open Source software business model, guys. Try again.
i'm amazed that i survived - an airbag saved my life.
If I had mod points, I'd be using them to boost your post.
The general biases on Slashdot are pretty funny to watch. If Microsoft discovers the smallest bug or a spammer is mentioned in any way, it's time to break out the torches and storm the castle. If a bug in Linux is discovered, it's a trivial issue that only affects people who are doing something wrong. And, of course, media companies trying to prevent people from stealing their products are the spawn of Hell's ninth circle itself.

Mandrake is a French made and based distribution. What the hell did y'all expect? The French are infamous for doing things half-assed and hope the rest of the world doesn't notice. If you want a well made OS, look to America.
