Anyone getting the BSA ads ("Seen any pirates on the seas lately? Report them to us! Arr!") on Tom's Hardware site, or is it just me? It looks like a new aggressive campaing from the BSA. I wonder what rationale there is that lead them to choose the hardware enthusiasts as their target market.

Slashdot is huge. There's upwards of 700,000 readers. And the concentration of idiots is twice as high as in real life. Thats why there's a moderation system.
Actually, a huge number of those 700000 accounts are inactive accounts. A couple of years back I created thousands upon thousands of accounts to boost the user number up to the one I desired. Many other people have done the same. Even recently, despite measures by the Slashdot programmers to make it more difficult - having to type in a code from an image - this has occurred (it is a very simple algorithm to decode the image to text.)

The problem is that the emphasis on games as entertainment, as opposed to games as technology, brings lots of teenagers to Slashdot. It's their chance to hassle adults without paying a price.
Some of those teenagers get moderation points and they moderate comments they don't understand, and flood Slashdot with garbage.
Much like ATI will be spewing out fucked up drivers like their 3.9 release that completely hosed my system. And that in turn will cause people to buy into this "myth". IOW, FUCK YOU FANBOY. ATI makes shit drivers. So sorry. Thank you for playing. You spend 2 FUCKING HOURS ON THE PHONE because NOWHERE did it say you had to fucking uninstall the old drivers completely before installing the new drivers. What kind of bullshit is that? How fucked up is your quality control when NOT uninstalling the old driver before installing the new one will hose your system? FUCK ATI. They REALLY need to get their shit together.
