The Ten Most Overpaid Jobs In The U.S.

misbach writes "Here is what the 'compensation experts' have to say are the ten most overpaid jobs [original article at CBS MarketWatch]. 'Almost no one in America would admit to being overpaid, but many of us take home bloated paychecks far beyond what's deserved. 'Fair compensation' is a relative term, yet human-resource consultants and executive headhunters agree some jobs command excessive compensation that can't be explained by labor supply-and-demand imbalances.'"

Not to mention the torture they go through at the Airport hotel bars everynight. Go take a peek sometime and see how safe you feel flying next time. Bunch of drunks.

You have no idea of what those guys do.

To compare them with UPS guys is to compare a surgeon with a butcher. The longshoremen have to load and unload vast ships filled with thousands upon thousands of trailers stuffed with merchandise. It's stacked with inches of tolerance, and they're manipulating the trailers deep inside the stacks within the cargo ships. If they miss just slightly, they might destroy millions of property. If they really screw up, they might sink the whole ship.

It's not just moving the boxes. They track what goes where in the stacks, which ones belong to who, what order they need to be put in to prevent dangerous shifting of contents. Most of them work all day with all this crap flying over their heads, depending on the guys up top to not kill them.

I couldn't do their job. Most /. readers couldn't either. The job requires exactness, speed, and a huge daily tolerance for extreme threat to life and limb. They earn every damn cent they can squeeze out of the execs and bean counters who sit safe in the office and still make more than the union guys.

You don't want them to have such an impact on trade? Build another dock.
