Mandrake 9.2 ISOs Available
joestar writes "Since LG has released updated firmwares and a recovery procedure for all so-called ATAPI LG cd-rom drives that were "destroyed" by a feature of Mandrake 9.2, MandrakeSoft has publicly released the set of Mandrake 9.2 ISO images which are now available on a number of FTP mirrors. Mandrake 9.2 is one of the few remaining 100%-OSS major Linux distributions, so considering a MandrakeClub membership or joining Cooker - Mandrake's open development version - is certainly an excellent idea."
Here's the feature list.
MAndrake is a stoopid noob distro, real leet hax0rz use gent00 biotch.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out you fucking faggot.
all so-called ATAPI LG cd-rom drives
Why are they "so-called ATAPI drives"? Was it a problem with the drives not having a standard ATAPI interface? Or is this just FUD by the submitter? I know that there was problem, but if the drives truly are standard ATAPI then why inject the "so-called" comments?

How long until Mandrake goes under like its predecessors? The open source business model is flawed!
I will find out where you live, break into your house late at night, and tie up you and your wife with duct tape and ball gags. Then I will go to your 8-year-old daughter's room, and drag her kicking and screaming into your room, where I will forcefully deflower her all over your bedsheets in full view of you and your wife. Then I will kill all three of you, remove your limbs, and package these in heavy-duty garbage bags, which I will then leave in the large freezer in the basement, once I fill it with concrete. I will also remove all of your eyesockets, have sex with the eyeholes, then I will defecate in the sockets and put the eyes in a jar to keep with me forever. Fuck you Gentoo zealot.
With OS X here and available now, why are you still using Linux? This is an honest question from me, in an attempt to understand what goes through the mind of people who seem to think they are "power users" and yet continue to use an operating system developed by amateur programmers in their "spare time". Why not switch to OS X which is a professional grade OS designed by experts in computer technology, and backed by a corporation that is only interested in your concerns as a customer? Clearly this whole "open source" thing is a broken business model, so why the strict adherence to it when you have an alternative that runs on the fastest computers money can buy, has a better GUI, more applications and is backed by a top corporation? I think it is high time for slashdotters to move out of their parent's basements, get a girlfriend and switch to OS X, a real operating system for real computer professionals. Think different, think better, think Apple!
Man, there are many people making so much money off of Linux. What a shame for Linus. He's getting ripped off left and right, probably the reason he is always so grumpy. Talk about a guy who really blew it. Money isn't everything but he could be retired and really working on the things he wants to. What a shame. And then all of us, preaching this free software crap, like anyone here has really contributed to anything. I'll guess less than 1% of all Slashdot readers have ever compiled their own kernel. I'm guessing less than 10% of Slashdot are competent programmers or sysadmins. Just a bunch of free-loading hippies who are going to realize one day giving software away for free is a bad idea because you get nothing where as everyone that happily uses your free software becomes wealthy beyond your dreams because of it. Besides, free is suspicious and business will always be scared of it.
I think an open source software model where the software is not free is ideal. With this, you get the benefits of open source software so users who pay can change what they please for their use and never redistribute their new code unless approved by you, the owner. Not to mention, it will have inspection from peers to track new bugs, etc. People can send in patches where as you become the owner of these patches and perhaps pay them money for it or they can sell patches themselves as a plug-in. Another benefit to this approach is someone like a student or someone who wants more experience for a resume can help contribute to your project but not be paid; to act as an intern for instance but still have their credentials attached.
I'm posting this AC as it's sure to modded down rather quickly. We should seriously take a look at our preferred software model. I should start working on my open source free working sys-admin. I'm sure many of you would have something to say to that. I just don't see why open source software should be paid for. If anything, the money should be sent to the FSF or some other advocacy group, if there is no "real" business backing the project.
