Ready or Not, Biometrics Finally in Stores
cancer4xmas writes: "It's very exciting to see USA Today's Technology front page saying, "Will that be cash, fingerprint or cellphone?" They're running a story on emerging biometric devices being the most fundamental change in personal finance since 1950, when the credit card was introduced. The concept is now being tested in some stores. Check out the full story." Now couple that tidbit with this morsel from wherley: "In a letter [scroll down a bit] to Bruce Schneier's Cryptogram newsletter, Ton van der Putte tells of a recent invitation from the BBC to comment on the addition of fingerprint biometrics to the British ID card. Using a digital camera and UV lamp he was able to make dummy fingerprints that fooled the readers - and in less time and less cost than similar experiments 10 years ago. He says: '...now the average do-it-yourselfer is able to achieve perfect results and requires only limited means and skills.'"
fp man! [rc]
Here I come, you can't hide.
Looooove the Fugees!
As every day goes by
How can we close our eyes
Until we open up our hearts
We can learn to share
And show how much we care
Right from the moment that we start
Seems like overnight
We see the world in a different light
Somehow our innocence is lost
How can we look away
'Cause every single day
We've got to help at any cost
We can bridge the distance
Only we can make the difference
Don't ya know that tears are not enough
If we can pull together
We could change the world forever
Heaven knows that tears are not enough
It's up to me and you
To make the dream come true
It's time to take our message everywhere
C'est l'amour qui nous rassemble
D'ici ?l'autre bout du monde
Let's show them Canada still cares
You know that we'll be there
If we should try together you and I
Maybe we could understand the reasons why
If we take a stand every woman, child and man
We can make it work for God's sake lend a hand
Nah, just kidding, it's cool with me.

BIG News in the S-3
by: stdsoft0 (42/M/Dallas)
Long-Term Sentiment: Strong Sell 11/17/03 11:06 pm
Msg: 62464 of 62466
Now the sell-off makes sense. Q4 is going to be a solid loser.
The big news from the S-3 is that SCO will almost certainly post a losing quarter in Q4. Q4 earnings would have only been about $3MM, but SCO has decided to take a charge to earnings for compensation of the attorneys. After a charge of about $9MM, SCO will probably lose about $6MM in Q4.
Very different scenario than provided in the recent report from Deutsche Bank reassuring investors. Instead of a PROFIT of $.46 EPS, Q4 will be closer to a LOSS of $.42 EPS. And instead of $1.00 EPS for 2003 as estimated by Deutsche Bank, it will be closer to $0.10.
Do you suppose Deutsche Bank has any clue at all about 2004 if they miss 2003 by 900% just two weeks before the end of the year?
From the S-3:
"SCO anticipates recording an additional charge to earnings of approximately $8,956,000 in its fourth quarter that ended October 31, 2003."
