Anti-static Polymer Stores Data, Too
Tau Zero writes "The BBC reports that a group of scientists (including Stephen Forrest) have discovered a new use for the anti-static plastic film polyethylenedioxythiophene: storing up to a gigabyte per cubic centimeter. The storage technology resembles an old fuse-link PROM; a bit of polymer between two electrodes conducts electricity when new, but a strong pulse turns it into an open circuit. The polymer is already cheap, and read/write speeds are claimed to be good. The researchers predict that this could be made into working devices in a few years (no word on whether this means devices in the laboratory or retail packages)." Update: 11/29 16:34 GMT by CN : Whoops, we already reported this earlier, and I was fooled into thinking it new by the BBC. Given the slump of news due to the holiday weekend, it's still worth mulling over, though.
Wow, yet another amazing new storage medium that fits gigabytes into the palm of your hand and should be on the market "in a few years"! I can't wait, I'm sure this one won't turn out to be vapourware like the five thousand other similar technologies that have been announced in the last decade or so!
No shit, I like coming hear to read the condescending attitudes all these fat Lunix slobs have.
Then I get in my 2004 RX8, drive my MCSE ass to the good yuppy bars and pick up hot bitches and give them the pussy pusnishing reaming of their lives.
I t is a great time to be employed in IT, as long as you are in the right spot. I'm making three times the median family income for my area, and I owe it all to the Redmond monolith.
Enjoy whacking off to animal porn, you fat Lunix lovers. Maybe you'll get skinny enough to catch the family dog for some real action after you miss enough paychecks.
Slashdot sucks, but just remember that all these linux zealots can't get girls so they have to resort to sucking each other's cocks and even some anal sex. Just remember that as annoying as they all are they'll die from AIDS within a few years.
