California Makes Recording in Cinema a Crime
Maharet writes "According to this article in the Sacramento Bee, recording devices will be outlawed and you will be able to make a citizen's arrest if you observe someone recording a movie. I don't advocate piracy, but this just looks to me like industry pressure (although the MPAA, et. al. are not mentioned). What if my cellphone has a camera? My favorite quote from an LA city attorney: 'If you carry one of these into a movie theater, you have to ask yourself, "Do I feel lucky?"'"
just a quickie: sweet sig, nofx rocks.
Needless to say there were people walking around with infra-red cameras and everything.
I suppose you wanna know how it was. Well, let's just put it this way. I've never read the books, I didn't really have super-high expectations, but this was definitely the best movie I've seen this year.
(Some spoilers, minor, below...)
Sean Astin deserves a best supporting actor Oscar, hands down. His was easily the best performance of the year, and I've also seen Cold Mountain and House of Sand and Fog.
The sfx, particularly one sequence where the blonde archer dude (can you tell I'm no expert?) takes down a five-story elephant and its riders in about 30 seconds flat was unbelievable. It reminded me of the Empire Luke takes out the AT-AT sequence, only updated into the modern age.
I don't want to reveal too many spoilers, which isn't likely to happen because I was totally lost about 50% of the time anyway, plot-wise. And hey, the book is out so it's not like the story isn't out there. But stop reading if you don't wanna know what you get in this movie...
Here it is:
A LOT of orc vs. human battlfield massive siege stuff like in the last one, a lot of Sam and Frodo struggling against all odds in a wasteland, some cool dragons flying around, an undead glowing army kicking ass, more great Smeagol speeches, a couple eagles that weren't really explained, and an awesome spider.
Oh, and an interminable ending, or rather ending*S*. The movie clocks in over three hours.
In short, prepare yourselves for a good time.
