Future of 2.4 and 2.6 Kernels
Blair16 writes "According to this article on C|Net, not everybody is chomping at the bit for the new Linux 2.6.0 kernel. Marcelo Tosatti, the appointed deputy for the 2.4 kernel is not expecting to make any non-crucial additions to the popular kernel, saying that all new projects should be pumped into the new 2.6. This has upset some people who are not quite willing to move to so-called untested software. Some of their claims seem legitimate, but I wonder if all these people will really be left in the cold?"

Shut your blabbering, and get back to slurping your spaghetti you italian greaseball.
Wish in one hand and shit in the other. Let me know which one fills up faster.
That's not a haiku. You fucking fail it.
But the BSOD is such a lovely shade of blue by default. And the font, oh the lovely font. I could go on for hours about the subtle splendor that is the rendering of the rebooting instructions.
Mostly, however, I like the nice little surprise of it. Really, it's just nice to know that the machine I cradle lovingly in my hands at the behest of my employers can randomly jump up and stop working at any time. GLORIOUS I say. GLORIOUS.

If that is Marcelo Tosatti's attitude, I have one word for you - FreeBSD. For a Linux/Unix enthusiast who knows how to fix things and can grok the source enough to pick out as few obvious pitfalls, then maybe running bleeding edge everything is fun. But for commercial users its just crazy. The FreeBSD developers seems to appreciate this point a lot more, and I would trust FreeBSD 4.9 over Linux 2.4 anyday for production grade work, precisely because of this attitude. If the Linux 2.4 mainainters want people to move over to 2.6 now, then checking out FreeBSD makes a lot of sense. I did after Linux 2.4.11 (the "Do not use" kernel) and I've never looked back.
we should all just go back to using the abacus.
There are differences between XP and win98 ? You mean like how you have to click somewhere else to do the same thing ? or are there actual differences ?

Please, don't say Linux when you mean GNU/Linux! Gnome isn't a part of the kernel. While you may object to the FSF's sometimes psychotic insistence on GNU/Linux, saying that Gnome (or KDE) is part of the so-called Linux OS is to miss the fact that these two software projects are also distributed with the *BSDs. Perhaps you're talking about the future of free or opensource software in general. Linux is just a part of that future, the heart (kernel) of several branches of the free computing experience.
