Cringley on E-voting

alfredo writes "I am shocked that this story from I Cringley hasn't been sent in and posted at Slashdot. I thought the slashdot crowd would be all over this. Robert X Cringley has a take on the voting scandal a bit different than what we have seen in the past, and promises more to come."

Yeah. I stand by that. Its what they're called. Danny awoke with a throbbing erection. Pulling back the sheets, he was astonished to find it had grown during the night - instead of his normal five inches, he was now sporting... He fetched a ruler. Eleven inches! Wow! He threw his green-stained pajamas into the corner, then he put on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, and went through to his sister's room. "Morning, sleepy-head," he said. Laura sat up, blinking. "Morning," she said. Danny's eyes were drawn to the way his sister's breasts filled out the chest of her nightie. "Laura," he said, "I've been thinking." "What about?" she said guardedly. "I've been ... really mean to you, haven't I?" he said slowly. "Horrible," she agreed, and all the cruel and spiteful things he had said to her welled up in her memory. It was wrong to hate ... but why did he make it so hard to like him? "I'm going to turn over a new leaf," said Danny. "I want to try to make amends for all the hurtful things I've said to you ... and done to you." She stared at him in surprise. Then her eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Is this a trick?" she said. "No! I swear to God!" he exclaimed. He took her hand in his. "Laura, I've been an awful brother, but all that is going to change. I want you to know that ... that I love you." He dropped his eyes in embarrassment. "That's hard for me to say, but it's true, and I need to say it. For you, and for me." "Danny, you're acting really weird," said Laura in confusion. "What's going on?" Danny sighed. "I know this is all very sudden and strange. It is for me too. But last night I had a bit of an epiphany. For all my life I've thought of you as my irritating little sister - a little girl who's always showing me up and telling Mom and Dad whenever I do anything wrong. But last night..." He paused. Laura was curious. "Go on. What happened last night?" "Last night I walked by your room. You were lying on your bed, reading ... and suddenly I didn't see you as a little girl any more. You were a woman - my beautiful sister - and I just felt this rush of pride that I was your brother." He sighed. "Is that crazy?" Laura shook her head. "No," she said, squeezing his hand. "It's not crazy ... except for the part about me being beautiful." She smiled wryly. "But you are beautiful," he said earnestly, looking deep into her eyes. "I never thought so before, but I realize it now. Your eyes - so warm and kind - they're such a wonderful deep brown, serene and pure ... and your face - it's becoming so pretty. When you smile, it's like the sun coming out on a cloudy day. Everything just lights up." Laura was blushing to the roots of her hair. "I don't know what to say," she said. "This is very strange. But thank you for the compliments." On an impulse she hugged him. "I don't suppose this 'new you' will last long, but it's very nice that you've come to tell me all this. Thank you." "There's no need to thank me," said Danny. "It is I who should thank you. I can't understand why I've never thought so before, but just looking at you is a real treat for the eyes." Laura lowered her eyes. "I'm fat," she said. "You can't deny that." "You're not fat," Danny chided her gently. "You have a bit of puppy-fat, but you'll lose that soon enough, and when you do, you'll be the same sort of shape as Erin. And you don't think she's fat, right?" "Well, no," said Laura. "Not compared to me, anyway." Danny took her into his arms. "Laura, right now I think you're the most beautiful girl I know. It's more than just your physical charms, which are amazing enough in their own right. But you radiate an inner beauty that makes you seem, at times, like a goddess." He gently lowered her back down on to the bed. "That's very sweet of you," said Laura, "but what are you doing?" "Laura," said Danny, drawing back a little so that he could look into her eyes. "I would like to kiss you. It's all right for a brother to kis
