Police and Lawyers Love E-ZPass
John_Schmidt writes "The AP is reporting that police are using EZ-Pass records to solve crimes. Lawyers are also getting the records to use in divorce cases. The article also mentions that the NYS Thruway has sensors to read the cards along the highway (not just at toll booths) but says the data is scrambled and not stored."
What the fuck is an EZ-Pass? Slashdot editors - don't ever try to get a job as regular journalists!
This morning Netcraft issued this alert:
EZ Pass is dying. Many Apple and BSD users have an EZ Pass, and this is asphixiating the system. We recommend moving to a more difficult (not so EZ) transportation means immediately.
What part of "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" do you not understand ----
Umm, you left out the part about this being a right of people in an organized militia (you know, the beginning of the sentence you quote). The point certainly wasn't to give guns to every asshole like yourself.
They pass GPS data at an airbag event to allow the Police and Fire people to know where to go.
However what you should keep in mind, in the long view of things, is that this information is highly volatile in the system and is intentially designed to be hard to capture for any purpose other than what been designated.
I'm actually a bit impressed. Normally I would expect OnStar/GM to do everything they can to market/sell this information to any data-pimp on the street. But I can speak from first hand personal knowledge of the OnStar system that this is not the case. The information is obtained, but too volatile to be of any use of this sort.
Bull crap. You'd go 85 if the limit was 80. You'd go 90 if the limit was 85.
What a country!
Nice bunch of bullshit you have there.
you can try to justify it to yourself any way you want. Hell your type hype the stats that highway deaths due to speeding is down in recent years while ignoring the fact that the way that data is recorded has CHANGED to only call it speeding if the officer issues a speeding ticket so the data is horribly skewed. Finally you act like antilock breaks are safer and the mecca for all to follow. Anti-lock breaks are a very bad thing at high speeds and will engage causing loss of breaking ability in many instances. read the reports from GM and ford on that one.. they ALL warn against antilock failure during high speed operation, and there are thousands of reports of break failure due to anti-lock kicking in at high speeds and on rough terrain like a bumpy road.
so why don't you be honest for once.. admit that you are a law breaker with no self control that doesn't give a rat's ass about the safety of others around you because you think you are too damned important to obey the law.
I will bet you $50.00 that your speeding is not only limited to the highway but is also evident in school zones, residential streets and city streets where you are intentionally risking lives for your own ego.
Speeders are like crack addicts... they will do anything to validate what they are doing.
Do not look at laser with remaining good eye.
