64-bit Linux On The Opteron
JigSaw writes "A few moths ago Robert Minvielle put to test AMD's Opteron regarding its 64-bit Linux compatibility. The results back then were not very positive but he is now back testing more 64-bit updated distros: Gentoo, SuSE, Mandrake, Red Hat and Fedora. And this time the results are more positive with Linux offering good Opteron support where Windows-64 doesn't seem to. FreeBSD also lists the AMD64 platform as a tier-1 architecture."
I'm anxoius to buy myself a brand new dual opteron toy (it will be worth replacement for my good 4 years old abit VP6 with dual P3).
now, I just wanted to ask if anybody has a clue when I could expect them in my retail store...

Unless Steve Jobs announces 50% price cuts on all the Apple desktop products across the board at Macworld in January I will be buying myself a shiny new Athlon 64 FX-51 setup soon afterwards. The system I can build with the Athlon 64 completely blows away the G5 tower.
I just stopped reading there. This was the last thing I will ever read OSNews. Until I hear they have got rid of their dogmatisms and their heads out of their respective asses.
