The letter U stuck into flavor makes it seem like it rhymes with "Devour"! If you look at the actual word origin, the was, origanally, no U in the word. The French added it. The British, for some reason, kept it. The Americans got rid of this letter (it takes the word closer to its origins, looks less goofy, and is a little more phonetic).
