Microsoft Sends Linux Survey

GnrlFajita writes "According to Newsforge, Microsoft is sending Linux users a survey asking why they use Linux, and what can be done to make Windows better. The article suggests taking the survey (or surveys, one for business users and one for home users), then sharing your answers with others in the community." Newsforge and Slashdot are both part of OSDN.

    Another way:

Get rid of invasive licensing terms such as the "we can upgrade your software at anytime, and in any way we see fit" from (I believe) WMP 9.0.

Why bother answering? For the most part MS already knows many of the reasons that some prefer Linux over Microsoft. I'm pretty sure that coders at MS could probably list many reasons off of the top of their head. BUT, this survey will result in nothing. The marketing people don't get it. They think it's ONLY because Linux is free, it's all about money, etc. The people who command the design direction don't get it. I like Linux (FreeBSD moreso) because it's simple and it's base parts are easily comprehendible. MS can't do anything about the direction they've chosen. Small programs that do one task well is seemingly completely against their phylosophy. Their legal team doesn't get it. An open licence that allows others to share and re-use code? That's a lawers worst nightmare.

The answers are already there for MS to see. Whatever this survey is really about, it's probably not good.
