Pew Study Says RIAA Tactics Are Working

Furd writes "The Pew Internet & American Life Project has posted a new data study that purports to show that the RIAA lawsuit strategy has successfully reduced P2P filesharing. While the presentation of the data is weak (poor graphics and weak statistics), the report does suggest that there has been a change in the usage of P2P tools."

Here you have it: it's official; Google confirms: Desktop Linux is dying.

Now, you might be thinking this is just another cut & paste troll based on the typical *BSD is dying bullshit.
    It isn't.
As you might have know, your favorite search engine, Google, has been running a little statistics service, called "Zeitgeist".

If you've looked at even a few of these links, you don't need to be a Kreskin to predict Desktop Linux's future. The hand writing is on the wall: Desktop Linux faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for Linux on Desktop because Linux is dying. Things are looking very bad for Linux on Desktop. As many of us are already aware, Linux on Desktop continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.

According to Google Zeitgeist, there are about 80% of Internet Explorer 6 users. The only platform supporting Internet Explorer 6 is, of course, Microsoft Windows. These statistics are consistent with the earlier presented graphs of the operating systems used to access Google, with the Windows family consistently taking the top 3 ranks. Out of remaining 20%, the split is even between MSIE 5.5, MSIE 5.0, both Windows-only browsers. Netscape 5.x

Well I can't say no to the GNAA.

Of course I meant binary, the very idea that more than 2 people actually use Opera is just a silly opensores dream.

By the way, I love the work that the GNAA does. Your people have been held down by the white man for too long.

I don't have nay clue how many people actually use it on the desktop. I use linux on my desktop (Fedora Core 1), and it's great. In fact, I would venture to say it is the first distribution I've tried that is better than WindowsXP on the whole. Considering how many other advantages linux has over windows (in my opinion, the only disadvantage is software in-compatibility - which can be a deal breaker, or not matter at all), I am inclined never to use windows again is possible. Of course I am aware of the shortcomings of linux, for example I have a windows system for photoshop/games/etc, nonetheless in my experience it is a superior OS.

You could of course nitpick every little problem, but I don't think you like the same eye turned towards windows.

Fedora is absolutely GREAT! The progress linux has made is almost unbelievable. Super nice customizable desktop, PPP is working, even my non postscript ibm 4019 laser printer works BETTER than with ms drivers (no misprints like in win98). Compiler, typesetting, apps all built in from the start. (Had to do some fiddling to get the modem to work. But configuration was minimal compared to previous experiences.) Much better than windows and it was free too. My only gripe is that for games i still have to 98 windows.

And oh, yes, 1.499% market share works out to around 10 MILLION computers (9999999+1). Because Linux of late has gotten so highly refined---and this is really the beginning for Desktop linux-- we might see some real growth in the near future.
