Microsoft Soft-Pedals Dialup
twitter writes "The NYT reports Bill Gates surrender of dial-up Internet access. 'We stayed in the access business for a while, and then we decided it wasn't for us.' $314 million in advertising yielded $300 million in losses last year." Microsoft's dialup service isn't disappearing, but the company is scaling it back and ending the expensive marketing campaign. This leaves exactly how many big players in the dialup market? Dialup is still the only option in many places.
Advertising is the Golden Toilet of capitalism. It has long lost it's descriptive origins and has become completely vapid of intellectual value. The so called art contained in advertisemnts adds little of value to culture and it costs you higher prices when you buy stuff.
...so I find this a little disappointing. However, I'm not much of a fan of Microsoft's style of competition.
Fortunately, there still is a form of competition: If AOL jacks prices up, broadband providers will be able to come in competitively, even in more rural areas.

Well, well, well... what a surprise. This post gets moderated down while the liberal reply is still there.
This is so, like, last story, it's not true.
Well, based on Advertising $$$ vs. Revenue $$$ they should be dropping the XBOX real soon.
They should really try not to go into EVERY market

Did you even read the article?
"Most were wrapped in plastic bags, and some were leaking," Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt told a news conference, adding that it was likely the weapons were left over from the Iran-Iraq war.
These are leaking, out-of-commission weapons and probably left over from a war in which we all know chemical weapons were used! Holy fuck! Is it no surprise that there are traces of chemical weapons left over from the past in Iraq? I'm so glad we have an honest country like the U.S. that has stockpiled so many WMDs and is now acting as a policeman to make the world safe for all of us. How can they find splinters in other peoples eyes when they have a fucking log in their own? Fact: The U.S. is the only country to have used nuclear weapons against an enemy.. not once but twice! The U.S. still defends that use of nuclear weapons.

Saying Java is nice because it works on all OS's is like saying that anal sex is nice because it works on all genders.
This is almost funny enough to make up for how retarded this fp-troll is in general.
Eat your heart out liberal left-wing traitors! The war was justifed after all!
And I think you're insanely paranoid. Such sweeping statements about traitors make you sound like that freak Coulter. Do you sleep with an assault rifle under your pillow so that the Russians can't break into your house and rape the dog?
Take a look at the picture and tell me if you really think some rusty old mortars would be effective. They've been buried in the desert for 10 years - disposed of just as Iraq said, albeit badly. How many billion spent, how many thousand lives ended - to find out that Iraq wasn't lying. Oops.
They just might be capable of killing a few small children if you bludgeoned them about the head. I don't know about you, but I'm terrified. Yawn. "Quagmire Accomplished".
Chemical and biological weapons are weapons of "area denial". They're *incredibly* difficult to use effectively and are best used in combat situations to make sure that enemy troops can't enter an area. But then the wind disperses it and it's neutralised. Minefields are far more dangerous (just as invisible, more instantly deadly - and persistent). Calling these mortars WMD is like giving that label to a hand grenade - stupid.
The only justification for invading Iraq is that (in theory) the people of Iraq are now free. But that's not the reason Bush gave us for invading Iraq. He lied to America and to the entire world. He had no grounds to justify the war if it were merely about human rights - because, you know, the Texecutioner has such a golden human rights track record. And North Korea has a far worse track record than Iraq.
That's what I want to know.
