Fort N.O.C.'s Security in Obscurity
penciling_in writes "Brock N. Meeks of MSNBC reports
on his recent visit to VeriSign's secret location: 'The unassuming building
that houses the "A" root sits in a cluster of three others; the architecture
looks as if it were lifted directly from a free clip art library. No signs or
markers give a hint that the Internet's most precious computer is inside
humming happily away in a hermetically sealed room. This building complex could
be any of a 100,000 mini office parks littering middle class America.' The
report goes on to say: 'Access to the Network Operations Center, the "NORAD"
of the Internet's traffic monitoring, requires the electronic badge and then a
double biometric hand print scan.' And here are Karl
Auerbach and Robert
Alberti offering their interesting analysis of this report on CircleID."
With all those lookups coming to one place combined with the new permanent Patriot Act, The Man has no trouble at all keeping tabs on all web and email connection activity on the net.
huh? Apparently I'm missing a story and the link is completely slashdotted... can someone explain?
Looks like goatse.cx has been bested by an even bigger a**hole.
She looks like a fat, unhealthy, bitch. Let us hope high blood pressure, stroke, and disease of internal organs offset the anti-freedom zealousness she projects over the internet.
goatse RiP.
Did anyone else shudder when they read that someone employed by one of the Microsoft companies was allowed to view that site?
It instantly became less secure.
p-nis. Ouch.
Cherish is the word ...your nuts
I use to remind me of...
[Chorus]
The issue is this: when Goatse and other shock sites and such are gone, and all you can see is happy-feel-good AOL-CocaCola-McDonalds corporatism, you will know freedom of speech has forever been killed from the Internet.
When things like Goatse.cx exist, you can rest assured you can publish ANYTHING in the Internet. It means your freedom to speak has not been taken away from you.
Today it's Goatse.cx, tomorrow it could be critique about the government, the day after it could be any voice of dissent which leads you directly to execution.
If you like freedom of speech, you better think about this. If there's nothing which offends anyone, there cannot be free speech. This is because people always hold differing opinions about various things.
Do you want to be a mindless robot, an unwanted necessity between YOUR bank account and the bank accounts of the corporations, which cannot even be sure it can speak its mind if it wants to? I sure as hell don't.
I am sad that Goatse.cx has been taken down because some people saw fit to impose their moral standards upon others. They could have done anti-goatse.cx and speak their minds. Instead, they chose to go lower than the people they despise.
