Halo 2 Confirmed For Fall 2004
Jeremy Parish writes "Bungie has finally announced that Halo 2 will ship this Fall for Xbox, as relayed via 1UP. But to make up for this semi-distant release date, they've released the first Halo 2 multiplayer screen!" Over at Halo.bungie.org, they point out a Bungie development update noting the new screenshot is "...entirely representative of the lighting, polygon counts, bump-mapping and particle effects", and also refer to the original Bungie.net announcement, clarifying: "A number of people have been confused by the title of this news item. The game is NOT named 'Halo 2: In Reach of Fall'. This is just a reference to the title of novel The Fall of Reach.)"
I just bought Halo for the PC lastnight and I'm ready to box it back up and put it on the shelf. I expected more. Halo is nothing more than Quake, but with vehicals. Big whup.
Not only that, but the graphics are severely dated. If, by some happening, Doom III and Half Life 2 are delayed until long after Halo 2 comes out (for PC), I might get Halo 2 and play it. But if they wait three years after release before releasing it for PC, I'm not going to bother at all. Whoo - I can play a 2004 quality video-game in 2007 or 2008 -- that has the same gameplay as every other FPS... *yawn*
And it still looks like shit - low poly counts, dull textures. Give me Doom 3 any day. Oh, wait, the XBox is still using graphics technology that might just have been considered state of the art last year, isn't it?
Sure, sure, consoles are cheaper than gaming PCs and have a wider variety of games, I know, I know. What I don't understand is why they still advertise based on their "amazing graphics", when graphics are the one area where PCs win hands down. Halo 2 will probably beat Doom 3 in gameplay terms, but it has no chance where graphics are concerned - so why aren't they concentrating on its strong points?!
Not only a FP, but a "teh spoke" FP on a Halo story. Rock... on.
