Rings Digital Dailies Circled Globe via iPod

KD writes "During the making of the 'Rings' trilogy, Jackson and his crew upped the ante on Apple's innovative iPod storage technology, using it for filmmaking sessions during production on The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Media was transferred from Weta to Pinewood Studios in London. There Jackson then viewed the QuickTime files on an Apple Cinema Display, tied to his G4 laptop, which drew directly from his iPod. The director's setup was mirrored in New Zealand, and crew could step through shots with the help of their iPods, with Jackson's guidance piped in over a videoconferencing system. During the course of two movies and four months, 'Rings' iPods stored and served up nearly one-half terabyte of digitized footage from 'Towers' and 'King.'"

    OSAKA -- CmdrTaco molested four elementary school girls here on their way home from school Thursday afternoon, police said Friday.

    Local police suspect that CmdrTaco, appearing to be in his 30s is responsible for all four cases, and are searching for him on suspicion of indecent assault.

    At around 3 p.m., CmdrTaco approached a 7-year-old, first-year elementary school girl from behind in a landing of a stairway at a city-run apartment complex in the Kirehigashi district of Hirano-ku, and fondled her body, police said.

    Shortly after the incident, a 7-year-old, second-year elementary schoolgirl was fondled by CmdrTaco on the premises of the same apartment complex.

    Two similar incidents occurred near a shrine about a kilometer away from the complex, and at another city-run apartment complex some two kilometers away from the first incident scene.

    The victims have described CmdrTaco as being about 175 centimeters tall, wearing glasses and a black jacket, police said. (Japan, Jan. 30, 2004)

    If memory serves me correctly, my uncle who served in the Royal Navy (and was prone to shenanigans so he may have been pulling my chain) told me that it stems from when they used to just shout into pipes that ran from one part of the ship to the other. Obviously in this case it is via the net.

    Nothing to to with the pitch or timbre of his voice.
