California Man Sues Penis-Enlargment Firms

Ronin writes "The DenverPost reports that 'A California man on Thursday sued a slew of international companies, including a Greeley distributor, alleging the penis-enlargement products they market and distribute do not work.' One of the highlights of the article is when the man says "I was wondering for a long time why no one has gotten around to suing these penis-enlargement guys, because it seems like a pretty blatant ... fraud." Probably cause people are too embarrased to say they've tried it."

  8. 95% of Spammers Run (Dying) *BSD by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Offtopic

In another terrible blow to what's left of the *BSD community, as a soon-to-be-released report by an independent commission doing a year-long study concludes: *BSD is dead and mummified. Here are some more of the NetReport Commission's findings:

Fact: the Apache Group has dropped *BSD support for all releases of its famous httpd web daemon. The problem is threads: "thread support in BSD is feeble, awful," says Brian Benedict, a project founder. "Apache 2.0 makes extensive use of threads, and servers running on BSD were slow, clunky, and unstable. It's a waste of our time to try and fix such a broken OS."

Fact: there is not a single SQL database available for *BSD. MySQL had been planning support, but dropped it when they found working with the *BSD threading models extremely difficult. "MySQL is very thread-dependent, and running under BSD, we couldn't keep the database up for more than a few minutes," explains M. Sven Bourgard, a MySQL developer in Sweden. "Kernel panics, weird crashes, wrong results: we saw it all running under BSD."

Fact: the *BSDs have balkanized yet again. There are now no less than twelve separate, competing *BSD projects, each of which has introduced fundamental incompatibilities with the other *BSDs, and frequently with Unix standards. Average number of developers in each project: fewer than five. Average number of users per project: there are no definitive numbers, but reports show that all projects are on the decline.

Fact: servers running OpenBSD, which claims to focus on security, are frequently compromised. According to Jim Markham, editor of the online security forum SecurityWatch, the few OpenBSD servers that exist on the internet have become a joke among the hacker community. "They make a game out of it," he says. "(OpenBSD leader) Theo [de Raadt] will scramble to make a new patch to fix one problem, and they've already compromised a bunch of boxes with a different exploit."

Fact: There are almost no FreeBSD developers left, and its use, according to Netcraft, is down to a sadly crippled .005% of internet servers. "It's just not reliable," said Christine McGee, VP of Technology for eBay, Inc. "Nor do we find it a very modern OS. I would recommend Linux to anyone contemplating a server OS, or maybe Windows, before I would recommend a BSD."

Fact: DragonflyBSD, yet another offshoot of the beleaguered FreeBSD "project", is already collapsing under the weight of internal power struggles and in-fighting. "They haven't done a single decent release," notes Mark Baron, an industry watcher and columnist. "Their mailing lists read like an online version of a Jerry Springer episode, complete with food fights, swearing, name-calling, and chair-throwing." Netcraft reports that DragonflyBSD is run on exactly 0% of internet servers.

With these incontroverible facts staring (what's left of) the *BSD community in the face, they can only draw one conclusion: *BSD is dead and mummified.

Oh probably 2 or 3 years ago we felt a huge influx of Californians. Then they all moved to Boulder. Or at least it seemed that way. I remember the news was telling newcomers to change their liscense plates as soon as possilbe to avoid problems in traffic.

But honestly, I think we've got more texans than Californians recently.

This is a horribly novice "BSD is dying" troll, I feel that the quality of such trolls has experienced a sharp decline of late.

The title of your troll "95% of Spammers Run (Dying) *BSD" has absolutely no relation to the troll text, and is not adaquately explained. How does this signify the death of BSD? Did a higher proportion of spammers run BSD previously? What system are they migrating too? Can you provide falsified evidence please?

Also, the fact/quote format of your message has grown rather tired, reading these once entertaining trolls has become something of a chore. Perhaps you should try a new format.

I also feel that this may have been posted before, or perhaps plagarised from another troll. Whilst this may be acceptable, for example in an FP troll, this constant reposting of the same tired prose is rather below the standard we expect of BSD death trolls. I trust you will remedy this situation as soon as possible. Perhaps you should also explore the possibility of quoting a figure more respected in the Slashdot world, for example, you could research into why Natalie Portman does not use BSD.

    Hope this is of help
