Energy Company Refutes Windows TCO Claims

apt-get writes "Computerworld Australia has a gem of a case study on Country Energy with comments from an IT manager that shoot down Microsoft's 'objective' Windows TCO claims. My favourite; 'we get to see both sides and Windows is not cheaper at all'. Interestingly, in almost every area of its critical IT infrastructure, open source and commercial software work in peace together. The IT manager even says not having MS Office on Linux is a hindrance to its desktop take up."

OBVIOUSLY this is a biased article. See it was written about a power company who switched to Linux and is now willing to tell the world that they should consider the same. There has to be a reason. AHA! Linux must use more power than Windows. It must, that's got to be the only reason! Every other study we've pai^H^H^H seen has said that Windows is cheaper! --------You are now leaving the "Redmond Spin Zone"-------

How many boxen do you have in any sort of production environment with actual people using them? And no, your home network run out of your parents' basement does not count.

What kind of buzzword bullshit is "enterprise strength solutions?" back in the 90s i could have sold a god damned spork as an "e-commerce solution" and made $1,000,000,000 in an hour without backing it up. Sure it's not the 90s, but you can't have a "solution" without a problem.
Or maybe it is the fact that I do not respect capitalism, corporations, or profit motive and don't give a shit if these peopl get work done bcause they don't make anything useful, just generate more money out of thin air by dealing with other companies that do the same thing.

Because this dick has Excelent Karma and a UID 500,000 users lower than yours. Go on clever-dick, answer the question: How did we all manage not five years ago before the advent of Exchange? I know I'm sat in front of my PC here at work with Outlook 2000 open and there are exactly three things we ever use it for; email, booking apointments and a company phone book. Whats so special about that? Are you seriously claiming that no small to medium sized company (The big ones all use Lotus Notes anyway) couldn't function without Exchange? Of course they could; they managed it for decades without.
