Storing Light In Chips
Roland Piquepaille writes "Recently, researchers have "stopped light" by storing light pulses in hot or extremely cold gases (check these former stories on Slashdot or at BBC News Online). Now, scientists from Stanford University have devised a method to store light pulses under ordinary conditions. In Light-storing chip charted, Technology Research News says this opens the way for all-optical communications switches, quantum computers and quantum communications devices. The researchers plan to demonstrate this technique by trapping microwave signals within a year. They think that a prototype which works at optical frequencies could be made in two to five years. This overview contains more details and references."

Oh, boy
www.goat.cx wut a rush OMG i think it winked
what is more difficult - to store light or understand a woman? just when u think u got it u then realize there's lots of work ahead for a long long time..........then ulimately u realize u will never figure it out! i'm not sure if this works vice-versa?
faggot
(parent post is a reference to Robert Silverberg's classic short-short, "Slow Glass". This is very worthwhile to look up in an anthology in the library; shouldn't take more than ten minutes to read it, and may well change the way you think about literature.)
until all yOUR needs are met?
consult with/trust in yOUR creators.... it can be difficult trying to work in the dark/confines?
Funny how they keep using that 'A' letter (the one with the ring on top, Slashdot seems to auto-convert it to a normal A?), which is spelled like 'O'... So when "Stargate" is spelled "Stargote", this new one, "Stargote Atlontis" sounds even more crazy. I hope the show itself will be good though, like the original Stargate... :)
xx
The parent is a reference (admittedly obscure) to a story about slowing and storing light. What does it take to mod it as a troll, let alone THREE TIMES? Rampant stupidity, or just philistinism?
Then again this IS Slashdot, where posts with blatantly wrong assertions get modded "Informative".
I wish I had a way to watch the meta-mod results on these. If I could see that these crack-smoking moderators got a proper LARTing in metamod, it would be a joy and a relief.
