Cell Phone with Camera = Scanner

An anonymous reader writes "TechJapan has posted a translation of an Impress Watch Article regarding a new technology developed by NEC and the Nara Institute of Science and Technology, that lets people use their cellular phones with cameras as scanners. It says all you have to do is move your phone over the surface of the piece of paper while recording a movie, and the technology (some sort of software I presume) will construct a high resolution image from the individual frames of the video. Here is the original (Japanese) NEC press release." I'd love to see before and afters to see how well this works.

    I remember watching Y & R since I was 10 because I was aroused by Nikki's stripping scenes...

I soon becoming mesmerized by the great acting, beautifully orchestrated background music (not just the main theme) and the way Y & R gave "mystery" type plots equal time with the typical soap romance plots. The Nina/David Kimble/Flo mystery, Lauren and Sheila, Kay and her white trash double Marge.... Those were the days.

For the record, I think Lauralee Bell has developed into quite a good actress. I mean come on... If your dad owned the show and it was your dream to act, wouldn't you ask him to hook you up? My favorite character has always been Nina. Well until she became pathetic and desperate around 1994 and would wipe Ryan's ass with her tongue if he asked her to! Tricia Cast (Nina) always amazed me with her great acting. For me, Nikki is the foundation of the show and her alcoholism storyline in 1990-1992 was the pinnacle of Melody Scott's acting - she should've won an Emmy for that.

The show jumped in 1994 when Nick Newman came back from boarding school as a Cro-Magnon looking fruit with the WORST acting I've seen on Y & R. Unlike when they brought Victoria back in early 1991 and she was a deep, intriguing, complex character and did the best acting from a teen I can recall. It also jumped when one day everyone spontaneously started calling Cricket "Chris" to make her seem more mature and she married that dork Paul Williams. I always wanted him and Lynne to get together though since Lynne (Always the bridesmaid) wanted him so bad. That miserable mother of his is a hoot though. Also jumped when they stopped using the great classic music cues of the 80's and early 90's.

They released a soundtrack CD in 1998 I was so eager to hear all the classic Y & R music cues and instead found a load of cheesy muzak that all sounded the same. However, by far, the biggest jump is... the teens monopolizing half the show. They may be cute and gorgeous, but their characters are DULL, DULL, DULL and their storylines are whack. As another viewer said on a Y & R discussion forum, it is like watching a bad high school play. Send the teens off to college and get some good mystery plots going a la George Rawlins, Rose DeVille, Sheila/Lauren baby plot, etc.
