Slashdot editors should write some kind of simple program to check for (recent) similar documents (slashdot text + linked articles itself).
This really isn't too hard thing to do. Just read a book about statistical natural language processing or hire someone etc. They maybe even some opensource software doing this kind of things somewhere.
