U.S. Plans Targeted Draft for Computer Personnel
waytoomuchcoffee writes "The US Selective Service System is drawing up plans for a 'special skills draft'. There is already a system in place to draft health care personnel, and this system would be expanded in order to 'rapidly register and draft' computer specialists."
Why not have a draft based on political belief. That way you can draft all the Pro-War republicans and leave us hippies at home. Oh wait, Republicans join the national guard and don't actually have to report to duty.

Perhaps if you have no sense of what it means to serve your country in the first place, you ought to strongly consider moving to Canada, or some third world country where you belong.

But, then again, it is true, its never too late to go to Canada. All you need is one degree, plus one cert (like MCSE or CCNA), a little French and you're good to go. If you're married, or have a girlfriend who'll move with you, you get more points. Or, if you're like most of us, you can be reunited with that girl you had sex with when you were 16 in the Niagara Falls region. (For you Gen-Y'ers, that's a reference to Breakfast Club)
Religious reasons are one thing. But a draft will only happen in a time of national peril. If you are not willing to fight for, and possibly die for, your nation when its existence is threatened you are a coward. I feel sorry for you.

I just don't get it. What is it with these people? If they think this incident was bad, what do they think the world would look like if we just ceased fighting the islamic terrorists? Morons.
There's a word for people who do that. What is it? Oh yeah: Coward.
If your fundamentally opposed to the draft then go as a conscientious objector and take equivalent civilian service during the time of crisis. If you are opposed to doing that then take a stand and go to jail.
Either of the aforementioned choices is infinitely more respectable then dodging the draft by going to Canada -- or getting a sweet National Guard slot and then not showing up because your Daddy is a Congressman and you won't be charged for being AWOL like anyone else would have been.
If it's worth taking a stand for it's worth taking a stand. Running away to Canada is not taking a stand. It's cowardice -- plain and simple. All the more so since if we ever reinstate the draft it's likely to be a life or death situation for our country. Those in power won't reinstate it for any other reason -- because then they wouldn't launch unpopular wars like they can now with the all-volunteer force.
I want peace on earth and goodwill toward man.
We are the United States Government! We don't do that sort of thing.
Just be sure and stay there once the people that are brave enough to stay and fight are done. :-)

I'm not going to plug obviously biased web sites, or claim that my beliefs are superior to yours. But i must disagree with your psychosis. If our troops are being killed in a foreign country instead of being welcomed with open arms, that country doesn't like us (whether we're there or not). And personally if my country calls on me, feeds me, pays me, and allows me the chance to protect it's people, i wouldn't turn it down.
People in the world want to kill us.
People in the world don't like ANYTHING Jews and Christians do. In fact they teach their children that everything we do (including providing foreign aid) is a way to kill them.
Extremists will force or even kill their own Muslims and Islamic cohorts to make them go to war or sacrifice themselves for the Good of a handful of rich Extremists.
If you want to argue about any of these points, i can give you hard facts instead of pointing you to biased websites.
