GDC Wraps Up With Surfeit Of Coverage
Thanks to Shacknews for pointing to the Game Developer's Conference index at 1UP, further coverage at GameSpot, more coverage via GameSpy, and yet more coverage at IGN, as GDC finally wraps up. Highlights of newly posted articles include confirmation of Metal Slug Online from Mega Enterprises and SNK, a preview of BioWare's Xbox RPG Jade Empire, a post-mortem of Elixir's disappointing strategy title, Republic, and new information on much-awaited Xbox RPG Fable.
Obvious solution: make the world larger. If cities were actuially city sized, there wouldn't be this congestion problem Right now, I see that most towns/cities contains like 20 buildings, for example; why now multiply that by 10 (after all, it's 2D, it's going to be easier to increase map sizes)?
2nd solution (which can be done simultaneously) is to have layers: so that all the action is still in 2d, but there's an option to switch layers/planes at different locations (imagine seeing your comrads taking out a powerstation in the background literarly, as you charge through the recently broken defences).
